Daisy Award

The DAISY Award (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) is a nationwide program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurse's every day.

Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital is proud to recognize our nurses with this special honor three times a year. This nurse's clinical skill and especially their compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families, and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model. They consistently meet the mission and values of Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital.

The Daisy Foundation

The not-for-profit Daisy Foundation was established in 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died from complications of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33. During Patrick's eight-week hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided not only to Patrick but to everyone in his family. One of the goals they set in creating a foundation in Patrick's memory was to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere who make an enormous difference in the lives of so many people by the super-human work they do every day. Nominate a Nurse

Any registered nurse working within Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital may be nominated. Patients, visitors, nurses, physicians, and employees may nominate a deserving nurse by filling out a nomination form.

The honoree will receive a certificate commending her or him for being an "Extraordinary Nurse” and will also receive a beautiful and meaningful sculpture called "A Healer's Touch", hand carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa. Additionally, everyone on the unit will celebrate with Cinnabon cinnamon rolls — a favorite of Patrick's during his illness.
