Lori-Weiss-(1).jpgLori Weiss, staff nurse, CCU, is the 2019 recipient of the Overall Nurse Excellence Award.

Lori began her nursing career at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center 21 years ago on the oncology floor and the cardiac telemetry unit and, for the past 12 years, has been caring for patients in our Cardiac Care Unit. Over the past few years, she has transitioned to the role of clinical instructor for the University of Maine.

While working full time in CCU and being a clinical instructor at UMaine, she also managed to complete a Master’s degree in nursing. She truly loves to teach and mentor new staff and is often the “go-to” resource for other nurses in the unit.

When you look up the word nurse, there should be a photo of Lisa! She is truly a role model for her peers as well as her clinical students. She exhibits compassion and pride in her job which shows through her interactions with her patients and her coworkers. She is an advocate for her patients, always goes that extra mile to make sure that her patients are well cared for, and provides exemplary care to her patients while creating a special bond with them. She has a calming spirit that helps with any emergency in the CCU.

Her positive attitude and optimistic approach to every situation makes her a pleasure to be around and work with. Nursing is truly Lisa’s calling thanks, in part, to her desire to care for, serve, and help every patient that she encounters.
