Our Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center Gender Clinic cares for children, adolescents and young adults who are conflicted between the gender which they identify as, and the sex which they were assigned at birth, and/or they do not identify with traditional definitions of male or female.

We understand this may be difficult for a parent to navigate and this multidisciplinary clinic, including specialists from Pediatric Endocrinology, Pediatric Psychology along with support staff, is here to provide safe, affirmative quality care for each individual.

What to Expect at your First Visit: The first visit will focus on your child and learning more about his/her specific gender situation. As part of this visit, you will meet with our Pediatric Psychologist who has expertise in youth gender issues, and will provide a well-rounded understanding of your child’s gender questions. You will also meet with the Pediatric Endocrinologist, who will answer any questions or concerns that you may have regarding medical management. Once a thorough physical and psychological evaluation is completed, which may take multiple clinic visits, a treatment plan will be determined in collaboration with you, your child, and the multidisciplinary team of providers.
