Childbirth Education Classes

Childbirth and Lactation education classes:
 

mom-and-baby.jpgZoom Childbirth education class: (at no cost) This class is a 2-hour class that covers specifically our L&D/Postpartum/Lactation unit. This will be an opportunity to ask any questions concerning the Injoy online class and briefly go over the childbirth process including:
  • Getting ready for the hospital (packing & supplies)
  • Current visitor policy
  • Labor, rupture of membranes, contractions, pushing
  • Scheduled ripening, inductions
  • Scheduled and nonscheduled Cesarean sections
  • What will happen when you come to L&D?
  • What will happen if you must go to the OR?
  • Pain management options during delivery and after
  • Kangaroo Care (skin-to-skin)
  • Newborn care, delayed cord clamping, swaddle bathing, newborn treatments
  • What will happen when you go to postpartum after you deliver?
  • Safety and security measures to keep you and your baby safe
  • What education will you receive while in Postpartum? 
  • Information on support groups and outpatient lactation visits.
  • Video tour of our unit

Who should sign up for the Zoom childbirth education class?
  • Any first-time parent (mom, dad, support person, surrogate, adoptive parent) after completing the online Injoy course.
  • Any second or third-time parent (mom, dad, support person, surrogate, adoptive parent) who would like a refresher or who is new to our area and delivering for the first time at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. 
  • Anyone who is interested, all are welcome.

Zoom Lactation class: (at no cost) This class is a two hour class that covers topics including:
  • How breastfeeding works
  • Latch & positioning
  • When to feed your baby
  • Getting enough milk
  • Breast care
  • Breastfeeding lifestyle

Who should sign up for the Zoom Lactation class?
  • Any first-time parent (mom, dad, support person)
  • Any second or third-time parent (mom, dad, support person) who would like a refresher or who had difficulties with breastfeeding their first child
  • Any parent (mom, dad, support person) who never had a lactation class
  • Anyone who is interested, all are welcome.

Both the Childbirth Education and Lactation class are taught by our labor and delivery, postpartum, and lactation nurses at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. This is a great way to see a familiar face when you come to deliver.
