About the Program

Northern Light Health is proud to honor its outstanding nurses with the DAISY Award — an international recognition program that celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide to patients and families every day.

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem) Award was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at 33 of an autoimmune disease. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this award to say thank-you to nurses everywhere.

Anyone can nominate a nurse — patients, family members, visitors, physicians, staff members and volunteers — by sharing a story of the outstanding care the nurse provided. Each month, one extraordinary Northern Light Health nurse will be selected to receive the DAISY Award by a committee of peers.

The DAISY Award

Each DAISY Award recipient will be recognized at a public ceremony and will receive a DAISY Award certificate, a DAISY Award lapel pin and a hand-carved stone sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch.
