About the Program

Our pharmacists and technicians practice within a decentralized model. Our practice model includes clinical pharmacist generalists and seven clinical pharmacist specialists.

Our clinical pharmacy works collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide optimal pharmaceutical care for all patients served by the facility by promoting evidence-based, fail-safe medication use. Our pharmacy staff is dedicated to educating future pharmacists through our affiliations with nine pharmacy schools and our residency program. Student precepting, formal presentations, and research projects allow comprehensive training with an emphasis on evidence-based medicine.”

Purpose Statement

Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center’s postgraduate year one (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program offers a comprehensive introduction to the practice of hospital pharmacy. Our program builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

In addition, Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center provides remote order verification and clinical services to other hospitals in our region.

All residents will have the opportunity to graduate with a Teaching Certificate. Residents have the opportunity to precept 4th year student pharmacists who are enrolled in our Longitudinal Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (LAPPE) program in a tiered learning model.
