Medical Center invites community to join in for Volunteer Appreciation Week

Date: 04/13/2023

Bangor, Maine (April 13, 2023) – Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center is proud to celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Week April 16 - 22, recognizing the contribution of more than 180 volunteers who gave over 17,500 hours of service last year. These volunteers provide their skills in various areas, including clerical and administrative support, direct patient care and enrichment activities, and support tasks at the hospital on State Street, Northern Light Health Center, Union Street, and Lafayette Family Cancer Institute in Brewer.

Volunteers at the medical center offer their time and energy in more than 60 areas, providing companionship and comfort through social activities for long-stay patients, pet therapy visits, welcoming and escorting visitors, checking on vulnerable individuals, providing resources for patients with cancer, and much more.

Stacey Coventry, director, Volunteer and Community Development Services, says, “Volunteer Appreciation Week gives us the opportunity to celebrate our volunteers’ commitment to the medical center. We enjoy shining a spotlight on our amazing community of volunteers, and we’re so grateful for the way they share their time, talents, and passions with our staff and patients.”

“Once I started volunteering here, I realized how many opportunities there were,” says Larry Wade, who has volunteered at the medical center for more than ten years. “You can do almost anything you like to do, whether it’s working with patients, doing special projects, or helping staff. It just feels good.”
