Northern Light Health and Roux Institute Help Students Make a Gap Year a Growth Year

Date: 06/06/2023

Bangor, Maine (June 6, 2023) - Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center is excited to announce a new Gap Year Program for students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. The Gap year program is a partnership with the Maine Department of Labor (DOL), Roux Institute, and Maine employers to encourage students finishing their bachelor’s degree to learn more about healthcare by working in the field for a “gap year,” before continuing their education.

The program is a 12-month commitment and includes a stipend to cover living expenses. Participants receive training and mentorship from experienced healthcare professionals and have the opportunity for career development, networking opportunities, social experiences, and more.

EMMC has hired their first three participants from the Gap program, Katie Southworth, Stephen Rezack III, and Jeni Nganzobo who started full-time positions in May. Programs like this are designed to help keep talented care givers in Bangor, engaging excited students as they gear up to continue their education in the medical field.
