Northern Light Maine Coast announces detail for campus improvements

Ellsworth, Maine (June 1, 2021) Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital is excited to announce detailed information with respect to upcoming facility projects. With a promise to “make healthcare work for you,” the hospital, along with Northern Light Health are addressing the need to make significant improvements to patient care areas on the Ellsworth campus.

Healthcare has changed since Maine Coast opened its doors in 1956. While modifications have been made over the years, the time has come for substantial renovations. A brand-new, modern birthing center is coming to Ellsworth. The center will be located inside the current hospital with rooms specially designed to meet the needs of mothers, babies, and their families. The new space will be near operating rooms in the case of emergency surgery. “Our birthing center physicians, nurses, and staff are among the best you’ll find anywhere,” states Sheena Whittaker, MD, Maine Coast Hospital Senior Physician Executive. “Now that team will continue to provide the excellent compassionate care they have always have, in a spacious, state-of-the-art unit with advanced medical technology.”

Also, as part of the project, the hospital will redesign many of its patient rooms, to offer more privacy, the standard of care today. “We know our communities deserve the best and safest care possible, shares John Ronan, Maine Coast Hospital President. “Transitioning to mostly private rooms for our patients and their families has been a change I have wanted to make for several years, and I am delighted that this will be a reality in Ellsworth.”

More information will follow with respect to facility changes at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital. Construction is expected to begin in late spring/ early summer 2022 and will not affect the hospitals daily operations.
