Sarah’s energy hit me instantly when she walked into the room like a bright ball of light. I felt taken in and embraced immediately like I was family. She took her time with me, catered on me like I was at the Ritz, was patient, informative, giving tips and pointers, compassionate; even taking the time to shoot a video tutorial for me on the how to tightly swaddle the baby. Although I feel every member of the staff I encountered was amazing—Sarah was one that really touched me deeply. She even offered and took baby all night just so I could sleep.

Laura is an effective nurse leader because she has all the following: knowledge of the care delivery system, teamwork and collaboration among disciplines, ethical care and patient advocacy, and theories for innovation for quality and safety improvement. She is a fully dedicated partner in the diverse health professional team and holds everyone accountable for improving quality and decreasing preventable errors. Due to her involvement in the collaborative health professional team, she is quickly able to pull together different groups for advanced problem solving and innovative solutions to enact change towards a higher patient centered standard of care. Based on Laura's consistent mentoring and outstanding nursing leadership at Mercy Hospital. I highly recommend her for The DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
