Northern Light Mercy Hospital announces new medical information officer
Northern Light Mercy Hospital announced that Susan Woods, MD, MPH has been named its new medical information officer. Dr. Woods, who is board-certified in internal medicine and informatics, most recently served as director of patient experience at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) Connected Care Office, where she worked on the development and national deployment of its portal, telehealth, and mobile applications.
Dr. Woods, who first joined Maine Medical Center as associate director of the medicine residency, later founded MaineHealth’s Center for Tobacco Independence and Maine Tobacco Help Line. She is a well-published investigator, conducting research on the use and impact of patient-facing health technology, digital inclusion, patient-clinician collaboration, and improving chronic care outcomes. Dr. Woods currently serves on the boards of the Maine Medical Association, Maine’s ConnectME broadband authority, and the review board for the Maine Technology Institute.
Dr. Woods is passionate about digital strategy, patient empowerment, and integrating virtual services into routine medical care. At Mercy, she has been focused on supporting the organization’s transformation in using a unified electronic health record.
