Northern Light Mercy Hospital opens new cardiology office in Yarmouth; welcomes new specialists

Northern Light Mercy Hospital is growing its cardiology services by hiring two new specialists and opening a new location to increase access to care. David Lloyd Ghiorse, PA-C and Leana Maria Thomas, NP recently joined Northern Light Mercy Cardiovascular Care. Additional information on both new cardiology providers is below.

In addition to growing its team and continuing to serve cardiology patients at Mercy’s campus on Fore River Parkway, Northern Light Mercy Cardiovascular Care opened a new location this month at the hospital’s health center in Yarmouth (385 Route One). The new location is served by Brandei Wingard, MD, Aline Iskandar, MD, David Lloyd Ghiorse, PA-C, and Leana Maria Thomas, NP, with other specialists rotating through.

David Lloyd Ghiorse, PA-C
David is a physician assistant with extensive internal medicine and cardiology experience. Prior to joining Northern Light Mercy Cardiovascular Care, David spent 11 years providing cardiology services at Martin’s Point Health Care in Biddeford, Gorham, and Portland. Prior to his time at Martin’s Point, David served as a cardiology and critical care physician assistant, respectively, at Our Lady Fatima Hospital and Kent Memorial Hospital in Rhode Island. Prior to his time in Rhode Island, he served at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center focusing on interventional radiology.

David received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Providence College and his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of New England. David is a fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants as well as a member of the American College of Cardiology. 

David believes that good health care lies in partnering with patients to help them understand their health status, what can be done to help, and, ultimately, achieving the best possible health outcome. When he is not in the office, David enjoys travel, hiking, and woodworking.

Leana Maria Thomas, NP
Leana is a board-certified adult gerontology primary care nurse practitioner with a 15-year history as a registered nurse in the acute care and ambulatory settings with a focus in cardiology. Prior to joining Northern Light Mercy Cardiovascular Care, she worked in the cardiology office at Wentworth Douglass Health Partners in Dover, New Hampshire. Before her time at Wentworth Douglass, she was a registered nurse in hospitals in Maine, Washington, and California. 

Leana received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of New Hampshire. She received her Master of Science in Nursing as well as an adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner post-master’s certificate from Walden University. She’s currently a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Leana is dedicated to creating safe, caring, and therapeutic relationships with patients, and she is passionate about the field of cardiology due to her family’s personal experience with coronary artery disease. When she is not at work, Leana enjoys skiing, traveling, and spending time with friends and family, especially at the beach.
