Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center offers a “best of both worlds” place to teach and learn family medicine: a tertiary care, big-city size and quality hospital with an unopposed, rural medicine training focus, and leadership invested in the success of the program and rooted in family medicine.

The Eastern Maine Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program is a 30 resident ACGME accredited program with osteopathic recognition. Our training emphasis prepares our graduates to practice in rural settings. We are an unopposed residency based at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, a 411-bed community owned, and governed non-profit hospital that serves as the referral center for northern and eastern Maine. Eastern Maine Medical Center is part of Northern Light Health and serves as the regional tertiary care and ACS verified level II trauma center.

Who We Are

The Family Medicine Residency Program at the Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center boasts a diverse faculty with varied training and interests. Our family medicine faculty are the backbone of our clinical teaching. They serve as the attending physicians on our inpatient adult medicine, obstetrics, nursery services, and inpatient osteopathic medicine consult service as well as provide precepting within the clinic. Our behavioral medicine faculty lead an integrated behavioral medicine program in our clinic.

We are also fortunate to have an extended network of community-based faculty. Community faculty precept at the family medicine center and offer an added dimension of experience and knowledge gained from the practice of family medicine in rural surrounding communities.
