Pediatric Infectious Disease

Pediatric Infectious Diseases (Peds ID) specialists identify, treat, and work to prevent infections in infants, children, and adolescents, including those particularly susceptible to infections and their consequences. We think of ourselves as “medical detectives” evaluating children with symptoms that are atypical, recurrent, or unexplained to give you answers when you need them most.

Infectious diseases are conditions caused by microbes such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites. We can provide infectious disease testing to determine:

  • Respiratory infections

  • Bone and joint infections (osteomyelitis)

  • Heart infection (endocarditis)

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Tuberculosis

  • HIV and AIDS

  • Hepatitis B

  • Hepatitis C

  • Meningitis

  • Rickettsial disease such as tick borne illnesses like Lyme Disease and rickettsial infections

  • Infections transmitted by insects and other animals

  • Antibiotic resistant infections (such as MRSA)
